Up-to-date Immunization Coverage among Infants Attending a Clinic at a Tertiary Hospital During the Second Wave of COVID-19 Pandemic in Kathmandu, Nepal

This study aimed to evaluate the utilization and quality of routine immunization (RI) services at a tertiary hospital during second wave COVID-19 pandemic period. An observational analytical was carried out in Immunization Clinic Kathmandu, Nepal. The infant cohort enrolled over period 4 months followed up for year (April 2021 August 2022). Up-to-date (UTD) status, overall vaccine specific drop-out rates were quantified reasons missed or delayed doses elicited from caregivers. who received BCG, 3 Pentavalent (DPT-HEPB-HIB) OPV containing vaccine, one dose fractional IPV, 2 Rotavirus PCV first Measles-Rubella (MR1) prior their birthday categorized as UTD. Dropout between early later defined percentage children that started series, but did not complete it some reason. Among 227 infants (44.1% female) study, about three-fourths (74.5%, 95% CL 68.3% 80.0%) identified UTD (n=169), two-thirds (65.1%, 57.4% 72.3%) had vaccines recommended age milestones. Overall dropout rate (BCG-MR1) 19% with highest third (10%). Maximum delay seen MR1 vaccine. Common visits another health facility, ill, caregivers travelled village/maternal home busy.
